1 dead, 6 rescued, 3 homes destroyed in Baltimore gas explosion(Photos)

A natural gas explosion destroyed three row houses in Baltimore on Monday morning killing a woman, she was pronounced dead at the scene, six people were seriously injured and three homes reduced to rubble in a major gas explosion in Baltimore, and firefighters were searching for more survivors, a major city in eastern U.S.

Emergency personnel were searching for people who might have been trapped in the debris of the three row houses in a residential neighborhood in the northeast part of the city.

A fourth house in the row was ripped open, and windows were shattered in nearby homes, media reported.

“It’s a disaster. It’s a mess. It’s unbelievable,” said Diane Glover, a victim who lives across the street. Her windows were shattered and her front door was blown open. “I’m still shaken up,” she said hours later.

While the cause wasn’t immediately clear, The Baltimore Fire Department said that dangerous gas leaks have become much more frequent, but the cause of explosion remains under investigation.

Baltimore Gas and Electric, the nation’s oldest gas company, said it would work to make repairs and try to determine what caused the explosion.
