An early morning fire outbreak has destroyed a section of the State Headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission INECoffice in Kano.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident.
He said the fire which started about 09.30 am, on Tuesday, affected the Data Processing Centre of the INEC office and a section of the administrative department of the commission.
“Even though no life was lost but the inferno destroyed the ICT office and a block in the administrative office of the commission,” he said.
“Even though the delay has added to the fire to burn almost all the building but they were able to control the situation.”
Some staff members, who witnessed the incident, noted that the fire started following the fluctuations of electricity power voltage which abruptly resulted in the blasting of some air conditioners at the centre.
“In the data centre are laptops, batteries and other related gadgets for data processing activities,” one of them said.
They added that close to the data centre is a box containing card readers but they were not affected..
