Nigerian Student Killed, Many Abducted As Armed Bandits Raid School In Niger State

Many students have been reportedly abducted by armed men at Government Science College kagara, in Niger State, as-yet unconfirmed number of children from a secondary school in Niger state, according to local media and officials.

During the abduction, it was learnt that one student was killed, while teachers and their family members abducted alongside the students.

The bandits who were said to be in military uniforms stormed the school premises on Tuesday night, and overpowered the security guard, before whisking away the students.

Meanwhile, some students escaped after the raid. A headcount is being conducted at the school in the wee hours of Wednesday to ascertain the actual number of missing students.

It was also gathered that security agencies were able to detect the coordinate and nature of the area, and have started tracing the bandits’ movement while NAF aircraft have been seen hovering in the air to track the location of the students.

School authorities have begun a headcount to determine the exact number of missing children.

There has been no official statement yet, but a former Senator Shehu Sani tweeted about the abduction, saying family members of the school staff were also taken by the bandits during the attack.

No group has claimed responsibility.

The incident comes hours after bandits released a video of more than 20 people abducted from a commercial bus near Zungeru town in Niger state.

It raises growing concerns about security and violence in the country’s north.
