No rapist will go unpunished – Ogun Chief Justice

27-year-old man arraigned in Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court over alleged rape

The police yesterday arraigned a 27-year-old man, Taiwo Odetunde, at an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court over alleged defilement of two friends, aged 13 and 14, whom he lured with a promise of sowing face-masks for them.

The prosecutor, Inspector Monica Ikebuilo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on June 9, 2020 in Ado-Ekiti.Ikebuilo .

The Ogun State Chief Judge (CJ), Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, yesterday vowed that no rapist in the state would go unpunished, insisting that the State would do everything possible to deal ruthlessly with culprits.

Justice Dipeolu stated this at the official commissioning of the Magistrates’ Court, Ido-Oke, Igbesaland in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Council of the state. The CJ, who stated that the increasing rape cases in the country had become worrisome, said:

“Rape has become a global phenomenon and the appalling side of rape in our clime has to do with recklessness of the perpetrators, lackluster response of justice administrators and absence of institutional supportive system to help the victims. She said that the newly-built magistrates’ court in the area would also bring justice closer to the people and avert jungle justice.

Meanwhile, Inspector Monica Ikebuilo urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional Centre pending legal advice from the office of Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

 Defendant  plea of the was not taken. The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Adefumike Anoma, consequently remanded the defendant at the Correctional Centre and adjourned case till July 27, 2020.

    Good, this is long overdue, my own personal opinion is that I wish all perpetrators of rape be are castrated.
