BREAKING Rebels Kill President Idriss Déby Of Chad

Chadian President, Idriss Déby, has been killed during a shootout between the country’s military and rebels.

Chad’s national army confirmed on Tuesday that Déby died from gunshots wounds he sustained from the shootout.

The Chadian army spokesman, General Azem Bermandoa Agouna, reportedly announced the president’s death on national radio.

Agouna in a statement said Déby “has just breathed his last defending the sovereign nation on the battlefield” over the weekend while commanding his army in battle against the rebels.

The unfortunate incident occurred days after Déby won re-election for his six term in office.

His campaign director, Mahamat Zen Bada, said the late president had been scheduled to deliver a victory speech after receiving results of the polls, but instead followed the troops to the front lines to fight the rebels.

Two convoys of rebels from Libya were said to have arrived Chad on April 11, the same day the country held its presidential election.

They were said to have vowed to end Déby’s 31 years of power.

The United Kingdom had identified the convoys as belonging to the Front for Change and Concord in Chad (FACT).
